passing

May 04, 2004
Second time lucky, it seems.

I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST! Woo!

Thank fuck eh? At least you don’t have to hear me gripe about it anymore. And I don’t have to beg for rides and make illicit trips to the shops. Unfortunately, it means I no longer have an excuse to avoid certain jobs at work, like nighttime meetings and death knocks. Damn. Ah well. Worth it!

My exam was this morning. Same time as last exam, same day of the week, which meant I got the same testing instructor who failed me before. How embarrassing. And as I am probably the only American testing in an automatic in recent history, of course he remembered me. (Although, as is becoming increasingly common lately, he mistook me for being Irish. Weird.) Made me do the other two (tougher) maneuvers, including reversing around a corner and reverse parallel parking. This time I didn’t get any points off for driving too slow - in fact, I got one point off for approaching junctions too fast - but I did get three points off in a few categories, same as last time, so I have no idea why it was acceptable this time and wasn’t last time. I wasn’t about to ask! I just took my pass papers, said thank you very much, and made my merry way to work.

One good thing down… next?

Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be as lucky with my job application, as I was to hear by tomorrow if I got an interview. So, unless I get that magical call tomorrow… it’s so not fair! Perfect job for me. My escape. Argh. You take the good, you take the bad, facts of life, eh?

I’ve been off on holiday. Miss me? It was a half-ass holiday really. My former roomie in Greece, Kate, was visiting. I showed her around Edinburgh and Glasgow, then we came up here before heading to Skye, which was nice as I’ve never been there before. The first day was unexpectedly gorgeous weather as well, which made things that much better. We visited a fantastic castle and saw some spectacular scenery. Very nice. The whole thing cost me way too much money, however, and Kate’s developed a terrible snore in the past few years, which meant I got no sleep on Saturday night. Which made me grumpy on Sunday. Awww. We took an interesting route home, however, which spiced things up a bit. Still, it was brutal having to return late on Sunday, do laundry and get sorted for work on Monday. Not much time to unwind. Luckily, Monday was a bank holiday, so there was nothing much to do at work.

No sooner do I finish one holiday than I’m planning my next one. It’ll be a short break, to celebrate Richard’s birthday and the end of his exams. It’s also top secret so shhhhh. Don’t tell. Of course, it’s not until the end of May, and I won’t see the devil for another three weeks, possibly the longest amount of time we’ve been apart! How ever will I handle it? Consider yourselves warned. Major whining may ensue.

Time to catch up on all the trash TV I missed while away.
