It was a nice, long bank holiday weekend. But did I make the most of it? Doubtful.

I finished a great Stephen Fry book. I went to the cinema - twice! I attended pop league, and a trivial pursuit party, AND pub quiz. That's a lot of social activity, especially for me. A lot of out-of-the-house time, which is not a bad thing.

Yet I still had my moments. Pop league especially was a disappointment. I was so looking forward to it, I was even dancing in the living room as we got ready to go. But when we got there, something changed. We arrived rather late, but still hardly anyone was there. The music wasn't as exciting as usual, no one was dancing. My drink tasted funny. Hmmm... I dunno. I just started getting down. I eventually dragged myself on to the dance floor, but to no avail. Then I got a headache and we left early.

The next day we saw a film about the last days in the Hitler bunker. Talk about a downer eh? But actually I was feeling much better. Afterwards we went to dinner, then to an impromptu party, where I got drunk on wine and cheated miserably. Woo hoo!

We stumbled home at about 4am. Had a minor-lie in the next morning. Then we went out to see the movie I really wanted to see, though we were late and got the worst seats in the house, leaving with neck cramps. Regardless, I was in a pretty good mood. Not for long. I soon got annoyed at Richard. Little things, but sometimes that's all it takes. Luckily, we were soon in the company of others, which helped take the edge off.

Yesterday I returned to work, to officially start my subbing training. Still awkward. Very. I've got one guy treating me like a moron, and another who assumes I'm a Quark expert. I'd prefer a happy median. Ah well. There's not much I can do yet, so most of the time is spent sitting around doing nothing. And I don't really feel comfortable in the office yet, so it's not much fun. It still doesn't feel like a real job, just a time filler. Which is perhaps a good thing. In the meantime, though, I feel like I'm in some sort of statis. Waiting to settle in the new place, waiting for things to settle at work... It'll happen though. Soon. I can't wait!

I'll tell ya what I can wait for though... Election night. Our last print run isn't until 2.15am. God knows when I'll get out of there. But word is there might be a nice mid evening drinking session. Maybe that will break the ice.

Time to catch up on my prime time TV. Bless video recorders.
