blitzard

January 22, 2005
I haven't been this excited about the weather since I was a kid! I'm seriously buzzing. I've been chattering away non stop since I came home an hour ago.

It's gonna be a BLIZZARD!

We may be looking at THREE FEET OF SNOW! Wow! You know what that means, don't you? No work for me! Actually, technically they will still expect me at work as apparently the post office never closes. Seriously. Never. Even during the famed blizzard of '78, workers got snowed in and stayed there for six days! Well, that's the story at least, as recounted to me only about a hundred times last night.

Some of my colleagues swear they're going to try to make it in. Yeah, right. The snow is expected to start at noon, and continue - with an accumulation rate of up to 3 inches per hour - for more than 12 hours! There are rumours that the governor might declare a state of emergency at 5pm, prohibiting anything except emergency travel on all roads. Even if they do, by some miracle, make it in - one guy was suggesting he might leave extra early, as in five hours early - they'll never get out. I told them they better come laden with supplies. Psychos.

I'm getting ready to bunk down for a few days. Considering our perilous perch high atop the hills, we usually get stranded if there's anything more than a few inches. I can't even imagine what sort of havoc 30 inches will create!

I've already told my parents we should fill the bathtub in preparation, and I think they think I'm crazy. But I think we might be in danger of long term power outages, and when there is no power, there is also no water, as we have a well, with a pump run on electricity. I hope we don't lose electricity for a prolonged period, however, for what the hell will I do? Play board games by candlelight with my parents for days on end? Hmmm. This storm is suddenly becoming less appealing.

I'm thinking I might go to my sister's and bunk down there. I figure she might get lonely if she's stuck inside her condo with no human interaction for days. I'd be doing her a favour, right? I'd even bring my Freaks and Geeks box set, which I've recently got her hooked on, and we could finish watching the entire series. Fun!

The downside, of course, is that we might drive each other crazy.

In other news, Arnie died.

And Richard played his second gig, in a nice old church. That's all I can say about that. Secrecy is so not fun!
